Our Target Groups

HortDemoCentre -Farming the Future - Creating jobs with climate-smart horticulture - The Greenhouse

Commercial and emerging farmers

Our main target group is farmers. Investing in better farming techniques and entrepreneurial skill will lead farmers to produce better products, at better prices for high end markets, with less operating costs (less water, less pesticides, and less fertilizer) and a continuous income (all year around). For young, emerging farmers it is important to know that producing vegetables can be a profitable business.

Students, agronomists, and researchers

Students must be made aware that vegetable farming can be a bright future for them. By developing the right business model, designing the right green house with the right technologies that help them reduce the use of water, pesticides, and fertilizer, they can make a successful business.

Government and extension services

For the governmental officials and extension services for agripreneurs it is important to know that the proposed integrated approach by the cluster on agripreneurship offer a tremendous opportunity to work on food security (year around), sustainable food production and sustainable job creation for South Africa. It is important that these agripreneurs are supported by (local) governments and extension services to make the necessary investments.
Buyers en retailers

Value chain actors such as buyers and retailers

It is in the interest of value chain actors to have a reliable supply of quality vegetables. The HortiDemoCentre will help farmers in good farming practices and agripreneurship to become that reliable partner.
